SCC is such a great resource for our families in need. To have the ability for the school nurse to reach out and get brand new clothes delivered for students helps so much. They're also very supportive when nurses may notice a student needing new shoes in gym class, a warmer coat, hygiene items, and even clothing for a special occasion or school recital. It's so important for children to feel cared for, comfortable and confident at school, and St.Christopher's plays a vital role in achieving that.
I just received an order for a new student. It was apparent immediately that she may need some assistance as she came to school dressed inappropriately for the weather and sometimes just not age appropriate or clothing too small, etc. I brought her down to try on her clothing and when she saw everything her face lit up like sunshine. Every piece I pulled out of the bag, she would say "Ohhhh, I LOVE that....OH, I love that too and on and on." Over the next few days she came by my office in the morning to "model" her new outfits. I could tell she felt more confident and comfortable. I know this will help her "fit in" as she adjusts to a new school and new friends, and she is at an age when that is becoming more important for her.
I can’t say enough great things about St. Christopher’s Children (SCC). I’ve called on them countless times requesting supplies urgently and there is never any hesitation; it’s always “we’re on it” and before you know it I’ve got the supplies being hand delivered, sometimes within hours of my request! There is such a beauty in what this group does for these children… They help a population of children who don’t necessarily know the name of the group helping them and who don’t have the ability to go out and praise this group publically for what they have done for them… SCC supports and loves these children from behind the scenes knowing there isn’t going to be recognition. They show these children day in and day out that there are people who care about them and their situation and who are going to do everything in their power to provide for them in their time of need. This is what true integrity looks like. SCC is a true blessing to our schools and our children and we are so grateful for their support!
I absolutely could not survive without the generous donations from St Christophers. I go through underwear shorts and pants weekly for accidents in their pants- The supplies of ginger ale and the needed nursing supplies of body care items are also a much-needed compliment to function when a student comes to you for deodorant , lip balm for badly chapped lips. We are in an area of high need so we address the family needs for clothing when they cannot afford. We cloth at least 4 families a year if not more. Our community needs to support them so they can continue to provide our school district. Go shop at their store or donate cash to help keep them going.
SCC shoppers are great. They send me clothes that are in style for a teenager. I see them wearing the clothes the next day at school. I have actually wanted to ask where they found some of the things because I wanted to get them for myself, they are so cute.
I am writing to thank you for all you do to support the children of Georgetown county. As a school nurse, I see firsthand the blessings that your support and services have given to others. From the clothing help to the gift of a smile, SCC is doing a wonderful ministry that blesses more than just the child that receives those gifts. It blesses the families that are under stress. It blesses the staff that get to see your organization at work. I know firsthand of the times you have come through for me. When I had a child who lost everything in a devasting house fire, you answered that need by buying that child clothing and basic supplies like soap and shampoo. You helped me when I had a student that was an emergency removal from a home and was not able to get the things they needed from their house before leaving. You stepped in and brought school supplies (book bag) and clothing for that child so that his first week in a new school and new living arrangement was not made worse by not having a change of clothing or school supplies. The number of coats that you have given me to pass on to children without coats during cold weather is amazing. The supplies you send to the school nurses to help support the health room at the area schools are so crucial to our ability to have a well-stocked health room when school begins. No matter the need SCC steps forward and fills it. There are not enough words to thank you or let you know just how much I appreciate SCC.
St. Christopher's always helps me so much. Specifically, every year I could not do without the intial clothing supply for "accidents".... I am almost out of my supply and will need to reorder soon. This first nine weeks: They provided clothing for children classified as Mckinney-Vento and the mother was so grateful (non-English speaking). The children were excited when they saw their clothes. I just submitted an order for children whose mother we know is struggling badly and was seen at a local store this week outside with a sign asking for help/money. I sent paperwork home on one this week for a child removed to the custody of grandmother due to neglect and possible abuse (going tot Children's Recovery Center). The service they provide is a blessing for our children/families.
I have had two separate occasions this year when a first year had a bathroom accident. You can tell it was an unusual occurrence. In both cases they were about to start crying, so I quickly showed them that I had new underwear and clean clothes they could change into. They were able to change, feel comfortable, and return to class. Please thank them for the clothing they provide. I use it! Every year I use the leggings they provide. I have girls come to school in skorts or shorts when it is cold outside. They come in here freezing and I am able to provide leggings. Please share that I will continue to lift them up in prayer as they continue to provide such a wonderful and much needed service.
Having St. Christopher's as a resource is such a blessing. They are always so quick to help and I always have very prompt delivery of clothing. The beginning of the year supplies are wonderful and it's just nice to see the worry in a student's face fade away when they see that we have what they need - new undergarments, belt, leggings, socks, deodorant, etc. They are able to be taken care of quickly and go on with their school day. Being able to participate in helping children feel taken care of and provided for at school is very rewarding and we would not be able to do it as often if we didn't have St. Christopher's Children. Having some of these basic needs met will help with their education and healthy development. Their shoppers do a wonderful job!
